Letter H Preschool Activities: In My Heart

letter h preschool activities

I strongly believe that as parents, one of the very best things we can do for our kids is to teach them about feelings and emotions. The ability to identify them in ourselves as well as recognize them in others is imperative to our social relationships and mental health. Sometimes, the struggle is to get to a place with ourselves to be able to recognize and discuss our own feelings.

This activity guide contains a great books list, full of books that talk about emotions and feelings in a constructive, positive way. My very favorite book on this list is In My Heart: A Book of Feelings by Jo Witek. She does such a fantastic job of talking about feelings without being boring. The illustrations in this book are by Christina Roussey and they are beautiful and engaging as well.

I made so many activities for this week, and my kids loved all of them. We had a great time playing games, drawing, coloring, reading and talking about our feelings at various times. The kids learned some new tools and got some new vocabulary and I think it’s helped all of us be a little calmer throughout our day.

Books About Feelings for Preschoolers

Kids are very skilled at picking up on the things we teach them, and sometimes that works against us. I have found that in my short journey as a parent, it has become increasingly important for me to be aware of my own feelings so that I can help teach my kids to be aware of their own. If mommy yells every time she’s mad, then my kids are going to as well. Awareness of and vocabulary around our feelings and emotions can help us in so many ways from childhood to adulthood. I encourage you to discuss and discover what is “in your heart” through reading, discussion, and activities with your child.

Below is a list of books about feelings for preschoolers that I think are excellent resources for you and your child to read together.
