In My Heart: Preshool Activities About Feelings and Emotions

I strongly believe that as parents, one of the very best things we can do for our kids is to teach them about feelings and emotions. The ability to identify them in ourselves as well as recognize them in others is imperative to our social relationships and mental health. Sometimes, the struggle is to get to a place with ourselves to be able to recognize and discuss our own feelings.

This activity guide contains a great books list, full of books that talk about emotions and feelings in a constructive, positive way. My very favorite book on this list is In My Heart: A Book of Feelings by Jo Witek. She does such a fantastic job of talking about feelings without being boring. The illustrations in this book are by Christina Roussey and they are beautiful and engaging as well.

I made so many activities for this week, and my kids loved all of them. We had a great time playing games, drawing, coloring, reading and talking about our feelings at various times. The kids learned some new tools and got some new vocabulary and I think it’s helped all of us be a little calmer throughout our day.
